Druk Path Trek

- note the trek can be done over 4 to 6 days depending on fitness -

Day 1

Arrive Paro.

Day 2

Hike to Taktshang monastery as good acclimatisation for the trek

Day 3 - Trek Day 1: Paro to Jangchulakha via Jele Dzong

Today’s trail is a long slow ascent. A clear day offers a bird’s eye view of Paro valley.  Walk through thick alpine forests and rhododendron trees for around 3 hours until you reach Jili Dzong at 3560m.  After visiting the ruined Dzong continue your climb for another 3 hours to reach the yak pasture at Jangchulakha which will be your campsite for the night. (Altitude 3760 m, 18 km)

Day 4 - Trek Day 2: Jangchulakha to Jimilangtso

Today’s trek follows mountain ridges with spectacular views of distant valleys and mountain ranges.  The walk takes around 4 hours and the camp is near the Jimilangtso Lake at about 3870 m. (15 km)

Day 5 - Trek Day 3: Jimilangtso to Semkotha

The path continues past dwarf rhododendron trees, the Janetsho Lake and through yak herders’ camps.  The hike will again take around 4 hours.  Camp by the Semkotha Lake at an altitude of around 3834 m. (11 km)

Day 6 - Trek Day 4: Semkotha to Thimphu via Phajoding

The day begins with a gradual climb. If weather permits there will be a beautiful view of Mount Gangkhar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest mountain, as well as of further peaks from the Doupchu La Pass. The path gradually descends to Phajoding Gompa (3536 m) where a monastery and retreat centres for meditation are located. From there you continue your final descent for a couple more hours through blue pine forest, emerging just above Thimphu town where you will be met by your driver and taken to your hotel.  (15 km)
