Day 3. Thimphu to Tashithang via Punakha and Dochu La (5 hours).
Day 4. TREK DAY 1. Tashithang to Geon Damji. The first day’s trail leads through the high agricultural terraces above the Mo Chu (the female river) into a lush semi-tropical gorge filled with banana trees. We camp at 2280 m. (15 km)
Day 5. TREK DAY 2. Geon Damji to Gasa Hot Spring. We walk through agricultural areas, villages, and oak and pine forest. Camp is at 2350 m. (15 km)
Day 6. TREK DAY 3. Rest day at Gasa Hot Spring. A relaxing day visiting the Gasa Hot Spring (tsachu). Bhutan’s national animal, the takin, inhabit the forests in the vicinity.
Day 7. TREK DAY 4. Gasa Hot Spring to Geon Damji. After a short climb from Gasa Hot Spring the path winds through hillsides and villages.
Day 8. TREK DAY 5. Geon Damji to Wangdiphodrang. The trail descends from the high agricultural terraces above the river into a gorge filled with semi-tropical vegetation. Banana trees, creepers and an occasional takin can be seen. A vehicle will be awaiting us at Tashithang to take us to Wangdiphodrang.
