Bhutan at a glance: detailed itinerary
Day 1. Arrive Paro International Airport. Your tour guide will meet you and take you to your hotel. Go for a stroll around Paro town.
Day 2. Sightseeing in Paro, including Drukgyel Dzong (‘fortress of victory’), a short drive from town allowing a visit to a traditional farm house en route; National Museum; Paro Rinpung Dzong. In the afternoon, drive to Thimphu (two hours).
Day 3. Sightseeing in Thimphu, where you can visit the National Memorial Chorten; the National Library; the National Painting and Art School; the Handicrafts Emporium; and browse the striking collection of intricate textiles at the National Textile Museum.
Day 4. In the morning drive to Punakha via the Dochu La Pass, where we will stop for a hot drink and to enjoy views of the Eastern Himalaya ranges. In the afternoon visit Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility), built in the 15th century by the ‘Divine Mad Man’ (Lama Drukpa Kuenley).
Day 5. This morning visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong. In the afternoon we will drive back to Thimphu where you can see some of the sights you didn’t get to earlier, including Tashicho Dzong, built in 1641, which housed the original National Assembly and is now home to Government offices, the throne room and offices of the King.  In the evening drive to Paro.
Day 6. Take a short walk to the ‘Tiger’s Nest', the sacred Taktshang monastery, and have lunch at the Taktshang cafeteria. Relax and enjoy your last day in Paro!
Day 7. Depart from Paro International Airport.
